For many businesses, summer can be a quiet time.

Unless you’re renting surfboards, selling ice cream or working in hospitality, the chances are you will see a fall in demand during the hot summer months. Especially a business like ours which has a strong B2B element to it.
Though we have worked on some really great jobs over the last few weeks, the summer lull has enabled us to work on a little side project - directing, shooting and editing our own advert!
One of the best things about working in creative industries is that you get to be… well… creative. We gave ourselves the challenge to be able to shoot and edit the video in just a few days.
In our downtime we have scripted, story boarded and mapped out the entire video which we will be shooting over the bank holiday weekend in a fortnight.
Given our pride at being a Welsh company we have decided to film in just under a dozen different locations around the south of Cymru (as well as our offices in Newport city centre).
The video itself is only going to be a minute in length, which is actually fairly long when you consider how short attention spans are online. However the quick jumps between different locations, while maintaining a coherent narrative, will keep viewers engaged.
When you think about it, it’s a really interesting concept to produce a video advertising the fact that you produce video! The quality of the advert itself will be a direct reflection of our product.
Of course this is a risk. A bad advert would hardly be a ringing endorsement of our services.
But in our view there is no risk at all. While we are still learning about the day to day of running a company, one thing we have absolutely no doubt about is our ability to tell compelling stories in a professional, entertaining and succinct way.
On top of this, it is genuinely so much fun to create an advert. Without wanting to sound cheesy, when you are your own client, the only limit factor is your own imagination.
Keep your eyes on socials for the new ad in September.
